Eta Gamma History
The Eta Gamma chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity at Middle Tennessee State University has a storied history that dates back to its origins as the Chi Alpha Pi fraternity. Founded on June 16, 1966, Chi Alpha Pi was established by a group of dedicated students who sought to create a brotherhood based on the principles of friendship, justice, and learning. The fraternity quickly gained popularity on campus, attracting members who were committed to academic excellence, leadership, and community service.
As Chi Alpha Pi grew, the members recognized the opportunity to join a larger national organization that shared their values and goals. After careful consideration, they decided to petition Sigma Chi, one of the oldest and most respected fraternities in the United States, for a charter. Their efforts were successful, and on April 5, 1970, the Eta Gamma chapter of Sigma Chi was officially chartered at Middle Tennessee State University.
Since its chartering, Eta Gamma has become an integral part of the university's Greek community. The chapter has consistently upheld the values of Sigma Chi, fostering a strong sense of brotherhood and camaraderie among its members. Over the years, Eta Gamma has been recognized for its commitment to academic achievement, leadership development, and philanthropic efforts. The chapter's annual philanthropic event, Derby Days, raises funds for the Huntsman Cancer Institute and attracts participation from sororities across campus.
In addition to its philanthropic endeavors, Eta Gamma has made significant contributions to campus life at Middle Tennessee State University. The chapter's members are actively involved in various campus organizations, including the Student Government Association, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, and the Interfraternity Council Executive Committee. The chapter's dedication to excellence has earned it numerous awards and accolades, including recognition for outstanding alumni relations and membership education1.
The Sigma Chi House, located in Building No. 5 on MTSU's Greek Row, serves as the chapter's home and a hub for its activities. The house provides a welcoming and supportive environment for brothers to live, study, and bond. Since moving into the house on January 11, 2000, Eta Gamma has continued to thrive, maintaining a strong presence on campus and in the surrounding community.
Throughout its history, the Eta Gamma chapter of Sigma Chi has remained true to its founding principles, creating a lasting legacy of friendship, justice, and learning. The chapter's commitment to these values has helped shape the lives of countless brothers, both active and alumni, and has made a positive impact on the Middle Tennessee State University community
